Speedos, Death Eaters and Maleficient's Wings

Today, we had to "go to town."

Hahaha!

The town we live in is 4 times bigger than the town we lived in when our kids were little, and we have pretty much everything we need. But, if we want to go some place different for dinner, or some place different for a movie, or to a mall...we go to Little Rock.

Clark had a dentist appointment this morning, and our dentist is in Little Rock, so Joshua, Clark and I headed down there bright and early.

Holly was in class, but thought she would be out by 11 a.m. Our plan was to hang around until she was out...and then she wanted to take Clark out for a bruh/sistah date before he starts back to school.

It didn't take Clark long at all, so we headed out to run a couple of errands. We went to Academy first. Joshua likes to swim in his compression shorts. For some reason, and we don't know why, he calls them his "speedo." Now, if you know anything about compression shorts, you know they are very...ummm...fitted.

And revealing.

(I promise I don't let him wear his speedo when we have company)

I don't know if compression shorts are not made to handle water or if one of the older boys had tried to wear them, but the elastic in the waist is SHOT. It still fits everywhere else, but the waist is so stretched out that it was not even touching Joshua's body. The other day, Joshua said, "I wouldn't mind having a new speedo." He never asks for anything, so I told him I would get one for him. He said, "maybe a blue one...or red. Or maybe WHITE."

You gettin' the mental image?

WHITE? In WATER? No thanky!

So we get to Academy and I find the Nike section with the compression shorts. Joshua chooses one that has a crazy, mottled pattern of blue and black. It's kind of wild looking. Clark raised his eyebrows when he saw it. I said, "in what other color would YOU like to see a 3D imagine of Joshua's private parts?"

He said, "this one is FINE!"

We still hadn't heard from Holly at this point, so we headed to Lifeway and I bought two more copies of Annie Downs' "Let's All Be Brave" book to give to two friends of mine who ARE being brave, and need encouragement to HOLD ON TO HOPE.

And then we went to Hobby Lobby, which is every boy's favorite store...except NOT. Going in, I passed a woman shopping with her pre-teen son. He was HANGING on her saying, "CAN WE PLEASE LEAVE THIS STORE?"

Clark's sentiments exactly, and he's 18.

Joshua has a love-not-love relationship with Hobby Lobby. He doesn't really like going...but he doesn't like it when Holly and I go without him.

Today, we were just killing time, so we walked alllll over the store. It was at this point when I realized the influence television has had on Joshua. Hobby Lobby is putting out the Christmas stuff and the "fall" stuff is already on sale...40% off. What in the world? This is crazy!

Anyway, we were looking at all the Nativity scenes, and I was trying to engage Joshua in conversation. I was pointing out differences in each one,  and asking him questions about them. On one aisle, we saw a framed picture of the Nativity. Joshua said, "I know that's Joseph, but he looks like a death eater."

Proud moment. That's a Harry Potter reference.

As we rounded the corner, there was a large statue of Gabriel. He had HUGE wings. Joshua said, "looks like Maleficent."

Sorry, Gabe.

In the end, we met up with Holly. She and Clark went on their bruh-sistah lunch date, and Joshua and I went on ours. They went to a restaurant in Little Rock called Local Lime, and we went to Chick.

We all met back at home, and spent the afternoon in the pool. Summer is racing to an end...school starts in just 2 weeks. Clark is a Senior, and I'M NOT READY!

"So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." Galatians 6:9
