* I am reading "Let's All Be Brave" by Annie Downs right now, and it could not be more appropriate for where I am in life. I am so impressed with the wisdom of this young lady. Highly recommend this book.
* This post made me sweat. My heart was pounding because...I am a MOM. And it's reeeeeaaaal easy to say, sing, pray: "take my life." But it's not real easy to say, "take my child's life, and if You do, I'll rejoice in this storm." (italics mine)
* I had a pretty small wedding. Growing up as an Air Force brat, we lived all over the United States...and in two foreign countries. Not a whole lot of "roots" planted in any one community. My Mom's "people" lived in Virginia, and driving to a small town in Arkansas for a wedding was not happenin'. We were married in the chapel at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Most of the people who came were from Jim's side of the family. We had our reception right across the street at a place that's not even there anymore. We had cake, punch, mixed nuts and those little pastel mints that are apparently akin to cryptonite to brides these days. When our daughter married, we threw her a beautiful wedding...but it's easy for things to get out of control, and we had lots of talks about it along the way. I've always told my kids, "a ring does not a marriage make," when talking about someone else's beautiful and big(ger) ring. Same thing goes for weddings. A lavish wedding does not guarantee a successful marriage, and a small wedding does not increase the odds of divorce. Here's this post, your wedding may not be much, but your marriage can be MORE.
* And this on letting people INto the hurts and struggles you face..."sometimes it's through the cracks in our hearts that God's love shines through the brightest." We don't always have to act so strong...
* And this on how there are times in life when you aren't supposed to win. This is a hard concept when you have BOYS. Just sayin'.
* No Friday Favorites can be complete without a word from Ann Voskamp. Ladies...let's just STOP.
* And, finally, because I figure that 99.9% of people reading this are wayyyyyy younger than me, a friend of my daughter's just started a blog. She is a wife, mommy of two precious boys, and, like the rest of us, trying to find her way through life. Check it out! I think you'll like it!
